The new region is called Kalos and is based on northern France. See map below. The large city (seen in previous trailers) is Lumiose City and is based on Paris. It includes a large tower not unlike the famous Eiffel Tower.

Next, four new Pokemon have been revealed:

They are, from left to right:
    • Fletchling, Normal/Flying type, a small bird based on a robin.
    • Pancham, Fighting type, is based on a panda.
    • Gogoat, Grass type, is based on a goat. It was revealed that Gogoat can actually be ridden around Lumiose City.
    • Helioptile, Electric/Normal type. It learns a new move, Parabolic Charge , which heals the user for half the damage it deals to opponents (basically an Electric version of Giga Drain).

The box art has also been revealed, and it looks great! it confirms that the legendary Pokemon Xerneas is available in Pokemon X, while Yveltal is available in Pokemon Y.

Here is a new gameplay trailer that shows more areas and Pokemon battles!

Below is the map of Kalos.

The Pokedex is going to be split into three different regions with Pokemon specific to those regions rather than one overall region. It's not been detailed how exactly this will work, but there will be a Coastal Kalos region, a Central Kalos region and a Mountainous Kalos region.

A new Pokémon type has been introducted. It's the Fairty type.
The Fairy type is super effective against the Dragon type.

The first Pokémon with the new type are:

    Gardevoir - Psychic/Fairy
    Marill - Water/Fairy
    Jigglypuff - Normal/Fairy

The first movesets for the starter Pokémon has been released.

Players can now meet a horde of Pokémon of up to 5 at a time.
    Yes, that's right, there's 5v1 battles now!

    Pokémon-Amie has been announced.
This part of the game allows you to play with your Pokémon and feeding them, which increases the bond between the player and Pokémon.

Nintendo have also revealed that the game multiple languages, so there may only be a USA and European ROM.

    New Pokemon!

    Talonflame evolved form of Fletchling

    Details:

This evolved form of Fletchling is capable of reaching speeds of up to 310 mph when diving for its prey, Talonflame can attack its foes with devastating kicks while embers spew from its body as it zooms through the sky. Talonflame knows Brave Bird, one of the strongest Flying-type moves. Use Brave Bird carefully, though, because the incredible strength of this move also does damage to the user.

    Known Moves:

    • Flame Charge
    • Brave Bird
    • Aerial Ace

    Pangoro evolved form of Pancham

    Details:

This Panda Pokémon is the evolved form of Pancham and was revealed in the August issue of CoroCoro

    Entry:

This evolved Pokémon has a violent temperament, but it also believes in fairness and does not forgive those who pick on the weak. The leaf Pangoro carries in its mouth can predict its opponent’s moves.

    Known Moves:

    • Hammer Arm

    Noivern

    Details:

This bat Pokémon first appeared during the Nintendo E3 Direct! It is extremely combative and will attack anything that wanders too close to it. Flying through the dark night with ease, Noivern uses the ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears to attack. These waves are so strong they can reduce large boulders to small pebbles. A new Normal-type move in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y that perfectly suits Noivern is Boomburst. This move emits an explosive sound wave that attacks all surrounding Pokémon with the resulting energy. But beware—Boomburst will also strike any nearby allies, so consider the situation and your team’s types before using it!

    Known Moves:

    • Boom Burst
    • Dragon Pulse

    Clauncher

    Details:

It uses its one oversized claw not only to seize prey but also to shoot condensed water at others as a projectile. This capability is so intense that it can crack a boulder! A Water-type Pokémon, Clauncher can also use its giant claw to crush opponents with the powerful Water-type move Crabhammer, which is more likely to land a critical hit. Critical hits against opposing Pokémon will do twice the usual damage. It is exclusive to Pokémon X .

    Known Moves:

    • Crabhammer
    • Swords Dance

    Skrelp

    Details:

It appears to be nothing more than a rotting piece of kelp, but don’t let its appearance fool you. Using its unique look to its benefit, Skrelp pretends to be a piece of seaweed, and when prey wander past it, Skrelp bathes them in poison so they can’t struggle when it attacks. Skrelp uses the Poison-type move Sludge Bomb, a move that can leave opposing Pokémon poisoned. It is exclusive to Pokémon Y

    Known Moves:

    • Sludge Bomb

    Inkay

    Details:

This Squid Pokémon was revealed in the August issue of CoroCoro

    Entry:

It has the ability to drain other Pokémon’s will to fight by flashing the transmitters above its eyes—giving Inkay the opportunity either to attack its foes or to hide from them. It’s said that the flashing emitted from Inkay’s transmitters can also be used to communicate with its friends.

    Known Moves:

    • Topsy-turvy

    Malamar

    Details:

This Squid Pokémon is the evolved form of Inkay and was revealed in the August issue of CoroCoro. It evolves from Maika through a new method

    Entry:

It may have the strongest hypnotic force of any known Pokémon, helping it to bend opponents to its will. As a result, humans with ill intentions try to use Malamar to aid in their devious plots.

    Known Moves:

    • Topsy-Turvy
    • Hypno

    Swirlex

    One more thing...

    Thanks prectorian.

    • Pancham - the fighting Panda Pokemon that has already been revealed - will evolve into Pangoro in the early level 30s. Pangoro is a dark/fighting type Pokemon and you must have another Dark Pokemon in your party to initiate the evolution.
    • There is a new Pokemon called Inkay (the details of which were not included) that will evolve into another called Malimar. The interesting part of this rumour is that Inkay evolves by turning the 3DS upside down when it levels up. It's worth noting that Inkay and Malilmar backwards is Yakni and Ramilam - so 'Yak' and 'Ram', which does suggest they could be part of the same animal family.
    • A new Pokemon called Espurr (as in ESP + purr) will evolve into Meowstick (as in meow + mystic). These will likely be psychic type cats.
    • You will have two rivals in the game, one who is friendly and another who is competitive. You will receive the fully evolved starter Pokemon from your friendly rival after completing the game.
    • You can meet Professor Sycamore, who will give you a choice between Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle.
    • HMs still exist in Pokemon X and Y, but apparently they are fewer in number.
    • There will be a new move called Belch, which is a poison-type attack that can only be used if the Pokemon is holding a Berry. It has a base power of 120.
    • Draining Kiss is apparently a fairy-type attack - adding to the current rumour that a new type will be included in Pokemon X and Y and it will be fairy. This move will heal the user for as much damage as it deals and has a base attack of 60.
    • It has been suggested that Mewtwo will have two new Formes, one of which we have already seen. Where the current Forme resembles Mewtwo, this second new Forme is said to resemble Mew.
    • The Starters’ final evolutions are Fire/Psychic, Grass/Dark, and Water/Fighting!
    • Players will be able to see their Pokemon’s EVs.

Many thanks to Dark Infernape, Neon32 and Chacu for this information.

There is still time to save and get a 3DS, it won't be coming out until October anyway.

I am curious as to why the Japanese logo for the games have a DNA sequence while the one posted above does not

If it is a mew clone then team rocket and Giovanni might be returning and that maybe X and Y will be reminiscent of Kanto/Johto days

Nintendo have recently released a short teaser for the upcoming Pokemon movie that shows Mewtwo transforming into the new Pokemon that was revealed a few weeks ago. This heavily implies that it is in fact a new Mewtwo form, not a separate Pokemon!

    Watch the transformation!
