I'm not very computer savvy and never really used an emulator before. I tried reading the stickied stuff on the bored, but couldn't really find the problem.

So, I download Visual Boy Advance 1.7.4 for the Mac. I opened the zip file up, no problem.
I then downloaded Pokemon - Crystal version.7z. The file is currently just sitting on my desktop.

I select visual boy advance in the file and then select the Pokemon Crystal file. I then get:

    Error!

    Unknown file type /Users/mitchelltewksbury/Desktop/Pokemon - Crystal Version.7z

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do or how to fix it. I'm really afraid to do anything and screw up my computer. Can someone help me and show how stupid I am? I just know it's got to be something stupid on my part....

Yeah, I got it working, but what does this error mean?

Error creating file Battery Saves/Pokemon - Crystal Version (UE) (V1.0) [C][!].sav

Try deleting the save file, and then change the save type, and then try again.

Which one is the save file? And let me guess... that error means it isn't saving is it?

I do have the Mac version. I got it running now the problem is it isn't saving my saves.

Yes. There should be an option to in one of the tabs.

    What option?

Options tab > Emulator > Save type. Delete savefile, change accordingly and then reset. Try that. If that doesn't work, try using a regular GBC emulator, such as NO$GMB.

I have Mac so I had to get the Visual Boy.

    Under options is only:

    Freeze Game State
    Defrost Game State
    Add codebreaker Cheats
    Add Gameshark cheats
    configure keys

    That's it.

    So... how do I fix this problem then. ><;

Was I supposed to decompress the file. That could be my problem.....

Yes. VBA only supports ROM loading from within .zip archives. Extract the file from the .7z so you get a .gbc file.

i think this is his problem:

the emulator will default to saving in the SAVE and BATTERY sub folders
if these do not exist, create them. and make sure they have write permission.

I'm gonna try decompressing the file again. What file should I run on the emulater just to check and make sure....
