Source According to Andrisang, CEO Yoichi Wada explained during the company's annual shareholder meeting that it would not remake the legendary RPG until it makes a brand new Final Fantasy game that "exceeds the quality" of Final Fantasy VII. In a candid statement, Wada clarified that he feels the current slew of titles in the franchise have not surpassed their popular predecessor in terms of quality. He stressed that while they hopefully would manage this in future, if the team were to remake Final Fantasy VII before this was achieved, then the Final Fantasy franchise "would be done with".
An understandable way to look at it. Square Enix has been rereleasing and porting old Final Fantasy games so much lately that people are looking forward more to those ports than they are the new entries in the series. So unless the franchise has a strong fifteenth entry, the second they announce that Final Fantasy VII is getting a remake, nobody will care about the new game and instead will look forward to the remake.
So considering the fact that the series peaked at 9 and has went downhill since, i think this is a euphemism for "we're not remaking 7, get over it nerds. PS Aeris is never coming back hahaha"
You know whats going to happen now, dood? All the fans are now going to pretend that they think the new FF is better than FF7, so that they can finall get a remake, dood.
